Protesters gather as Donald Trump heads to Baltimore for Army-Navy game

About one hundred people gathered in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor before noon to protest President-elect Donald Trump ahead of the Army-Navy football game in Baltimore, which he is scheduled to attend.
Trump, who has been holding rallies around the country as he builds a cabinet from his penthouse in New York, planned to sit on the Army side of the field for half the game and the Navy side for the other half — a tradition for presidents.
At least one group, calling itself the Mid-Atlantic General Defense Committee, appeared to be using social media to organize the protest in Baltimore near the Inner Harbor.
Kun Sun Sweeley said he hoped to show Trump that cities like Baltimore would not support him.
The 30-year-old Waverly resident said he hoped the president-elect would consider changing some of his stances.
“I am fully against Donald Trump and his racist and bigoted rhetoric,” Sweeney said.
One of the organizers of the march, Charlie Kerr, they began organizing the protest right after hearing Trump would be in town.
They realized it wasn’t much time, but felt it would normalize the president-elect if they did nothing.
“We thought it was important to show there are people who oppose him and don’t want him in our town,” Kerr said.
The protestors could be heard shouting, “No Trump. No KKK. No fascist USA,” as football game attendees walked past toward the stadium.
Trump last visited Baltimore in September, when he spoke at the annual conference of the National Guard Association of the United States at the Convention Center. A relatively small group protested that visit at the time.
As in past presidential election years, Maryland voted overwhelmingly for the Democratic candidate. Hillary Clinton received just over 60 percent of the state’s vote, one of her strongest showings anywhere in the nation.
The Army-Navy game — the 117th meeting of the two teams — will be played at M&T Bank Stadium. It frequently draws presidents and other senior officials. President Barack Obama attended in 2011, and President George W. Bush attended several times during his tenure.
Navy has won the last 14 games.
